Genealogy and tribal history is the science by which the lineages of peoples and tribes, their history, lands, and literary heritage are known. Therefore, for the Arabs, it is one of the honorable sciences that they paid great attention to in their pre-Islamic and Islamic eras alike, with differences in motives and objectives. If the origin and source of science was in the pre-Islamic era of exalted fanaticism, then Islam, which refined the souls of the Arabs, made it an honorable science that shows us the obstacles to fanaticism and pride, and motivates those engaged in it to desire to preserve lineages, know family members and men, and clarify kinship, on which legal duties and rights are based, and upon which jurisprudential rulings are built. Since this science has this high degree of merit and honor, men of high merit and honor engaged in it, and there is no better evidence of this than the fact that Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, was the most knowledgeable of the Quraysh about their genealogies. Research into the genealogies of the tribe, its divisions, and its history is an important matter and a duty for its honorable sons, in order to preserve the genealogies of their tribes, their history, and their literary heritage.
