Translated by Buthaina Al-Ibrahim. Ernst Hoffmann (January 24, 1776 in Kaliningrad—June 25, 1822 in Berlin) was a German Romantic writer, composer, jurist, and cartoonist. He is the author of the fairy tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," which inspired the ballet "The Nutcracker," one of the masterpieces of the Russian composer Tchaikovsky. Ernst Hoffmann is considered one of the major writers of the Romantic movement, and his literary works were highly influential during the nineteenth century. He is considered a pioneer of fantasy literature.
