Separated from her parents upon arrival, she, her sister, and others endured indescribably cruel experiences, from her mother being suffocated to death in the gas chambers to being forced to dance for her executioner to being pulled from a pile of corpses as she lay dying. In this book, Dr. Eger recounts her horrific experience in the Nazi concentration camps and how she survived by keeping the flame of hope burning within her. After her survival, she went on to become a psychotherapist, helping others survive trauma, disappointment, and loss and dismantle their mental prisons, stone by stone.
