He was taken to a town where he was unfamiliar with every place, and he remembered nothing of what had happened before. He couldn't recall if he had ever known a place before, nor his own name, nor his mother's face, nor her name; he remembered only her pleading with her father not to separate them. But who would listen?

There, in that harsh town, the boy was abandoned before a fortified building, right under the watchful eye of a seasoned guard. It was then, and only then, that he began to suffer the consequences of being a bastard, born against his will. A boy who knew nothing but the hunger in his stomach and the yearning of his body for warmth was led to a court where he would endure unimaginable suffering, where he would be persecuted, where his heart would be broken, and where... he would be trained to be an assassin. He would endure unbearable loneliness, taste the bitterness of loss more deeply than he ever imagined, and learn the true meaning of pain in the most agonizing way.

So, is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Will the hand of the court be kind to such a boy? Or will it be harsh and cruel, knowing nothing but whipping? Will he ever find something to dispel his loneliness? Or will he remain alone until his time comes? And will his time come sooner or later? In a conflict between kingdoms, in the midst of a royal court that knows no mercy, and in the care of one who seeks nothing from him but what benefits him, Fitts will suffer the consequences of a mistake for which he had no fault.
