"My Word to History" is the memoirs of President Mohamed Naguib, the first president of the Arab Republic of Egypt after the fall of the monarchy in the July 23, 1952 Revolution. This book is a rare historical document written by Naguib himself, in which he candidly and painfully recounts the details of what happened behind the scenes of the revolution and the reasons for his removal from power. He also reveals his disagreements with the Revolutionary Command Council, particularly with Gamal Abdel Nasser. In his memoirs, Naguib recounts the story of the revolution from its beginnings, when he was an army officer seeking, along with his colleagues, to end the monarchy. However, after the revolution's success, he felt that the principles for which it was founded were beginning to deviate. He entered into a conflict with the officers who had assumed power, demanding a truly democratic life and fair elections. This led to his dismissal and placement under house arrest in the Zeinab al-Wakil Palace for 30 years. The book focuses on the meanings of patriotism, justice, and freedom, and raises painful questions about the price paid by those who adhere to principles. It also conveys the bitterness of a man who felt he had been deceived, robbed of his role, and eliminated. Politically, despite being the face and foremost symbol of the revolution, "My Word to History" is not merely an autobiography, but rather a sincere testimony and a plea from a man who was loyal to his country, paying the price with his freedom and his life.
