The obvious question, which I hear a lot, is: "Why did you choose to be a forensic doctor?" But the question worth answering is: "Why shouldn't you be a forensic doctor?" The answer is because you will no longer be the person you were before, and you will live the rest of your life stuck between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Because your outlook on things will change in a way that will disturb you greatly. Because you have seen more than you should, and thought more deeply than is necessary. Because you are certain that the scales can tip in an instant. Because you will learn that bad things often happen to good people, and that bad people may at least survive through their bad deeds in this world. Because you will lose trust in most of the things you hear and see around you, and you will lose trust in many people, even though they are not bad. You shouldn't become a forensic doctor just because you'll be a loyal and faithful friend to the dead... You'll even take on their personalities, imagine their last moments, and put yourself in their shoes. Don't become a forensic doctor because the memory of every corpse you examine will haunt you until you exact justice for them... And every victim you see, you'll see yourself in them, even if you do them justice... And every criminal you know, you'll think you might become a target for them and others like them, even if you convict them. Don't become a forensic doctor, even if they give you gold... Nothing will restore your innocence of heart and purity of soul if they are gone.
