This journey was embarked upon by the author, determined to restore a damaged memory of ancient Egyptian history. Her senses perceive the whispering voices of a blend of different civilizations that this country has fused together. With a dreamy heart, a sharp mind, and a poetic language, she set out on a journey to answer a fundamental question: Is Egypt Arab, Islamic, Coptic, or Pharaonic? She didn't settle for a direct, concise answer, nor did she rely on ancient monuments and ancient buildings for her history. Rather, she immersed herself in the fabric of society itself, observing the lives of its people, and revealing the intertwining customs of Egyptians of various religions, whether they be marriage customs, welcoming a new baby, or bidding farewell to a departed soul. Through the photographs accompanying the book, she conveyed echoes of an ancient past, multi-layered and multi-meaning. Ultimately, she concluded with a certain truth: Egyptians can only live in the company of the past.
