When he was born in the early hours of January 1, 1980, he didn't realize he was the first born in the 1980s generation, and that he could see in his dreams the major events of those years as they happened. He saw the moment of Sadat's assassination, Sharon's complicity in the Sabra and Shatila massacre, and the exchange of accusations between Saddam Hussein and Hafez al-Assad. When he woke up, he would forget what he had seen. But he didn't care much about this; he was preoccupied with the turmoil his family was experiencing, with his magical world, with his lost childhood that everyone tried to take away from him. He had to resist a lot to keep from melting into the world and losing his innocence.
It's the 1980s, years that from afar seem stagnant and devoid of anything new, but are boiling with the expected ingredients.
This is a novel about the magic and splendor of childhood, about what we were and what we became.
