We all probably know the famous English physicist and chemist, and one of the pioneers of both sciences, Michael Faraday. We know his great achievements in both fields, especially with regard to electricity. However, many may not know that Faraday was also a unique teacher, one of the first scientists to try to facilitate science, and one of those who bet on hope and the future, paying special attention to young people. In 1825, Faraday founded what were called the Christmas Lectures for Young People, a remarkable achievement, especially at that early age. A venerable scholar boldly, lovingly, and visionarily engaged with the world of young boys and girls. This book is merely the text of one of those lectures, in which we recall Faraday's explanation of some of the most important scientific concepts addressed to young people. Starting with the very simple matter of candle burning, Faraday takes us on a journey to the most important and simplest scientific concepts that govern the world. It's a very magical thing. Starting with the burning of a candle, we learn about the physics of the flame, the chemistry of combustion, the components of the atmosphere and the properties of these components, chemical energy, and even the concept of food metabolism in living organisms, among other things.
