Land of Black is a novel trilogy by Abdul Rahman Munif. Published in 1999, it explores the social and political history of Iraq during the nineteenth century. It focuses primarily on the interactions of the Iraqi character with major global events of the time, such as Napoleon's defeat in Egypt, the remnants of French Revolutionary thought in the world, British ambitions in the Middle East, and the shadows of power in the capital of the Caliphate.

The first part dealt with the details of Daoud Pasha's rise to power, highlighting the methods of governance in Mesopotamia. All the characters revolved around the palace, unlike the second part, which freed him from it and took to the streets of Baghdad, then followed the journey of the British Consul Rich, who was the second driver of events to the north. The character of Badri was the most important character in this part, as he shifted most of the events from Baghdad to Kirkuk. In the third part, after Daoud Pasha was reassured of his rule through campaigns against the rebellious north and south, he entered into a direct conflict with the British Consul, who saw no way to prevent the Pasha's rise except by threatening papers of British military intervention. The novel ends with the tunes of the annual flooding of the Tigris and the unresolved conflict between Daoud Pasha and the British Consul.
