


Al-Jahiz is a symbol of Arabic literature and the founder of a school of thought within it. He was an eloquent and prolific writer, known for his unique and rare observations. He often used his literary works to imbue them with his theological beliefs, as he was a leading figure among the Mu'tazilites. His frequent digressions aided him in this. Among his most famous books is "Al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin," in which he includes speeches, letters, and poems within his discussions on: defects of the tongue such as lisping, silence, rhymed prose (saj'), stories, riddles, the staff, imprisonment, the insane, the sick, and consoling kings
