"The Windigo" is a genre of "paranormal" horror fiction. The novel takes place in a Canadian forest, where a group of four people go moose hunting and find themselves pursued by a mythical creature called the "Wendigo," which Native American mythology says causes anyone who sees it to lose their mind. “There, in the heart of the untamed wilderness, they saw something essentially barbaric and primitive, something that had survived terrifyingly well from the progress of humanity, defying the evolution of life, to appear to them primitive and savage… It appeared to them rather as a glimpse of prehistoric times, when the hearts of men were inhabited by myths of mysterious giant creatures, when the forces of nature were still wild, the forces that dominated the primitive world and had not yet completely disappeared. He still remembers to this day the term he coined years later in one of his lectures: “The immense monstrous forces that lurk behind the souls of men, perhaps not evil in their nature, but instinctively hostile to humanity as long as they remain!!” “The Windigo” is one of the most important classics of horror literature in the world by the undisputed master of horror literature, the writer Algernon Blackwood. Its events take place in a Canadian forest where a group of four people go out to hunt deer and find themselves pursued by a mythical creature called “the Windigo,” which Native American legends say is Whoever sees him will lose his mind!!
