"The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" is a short story with profound meaning, in which Fyodor Dostoevsky presents a poignant philosophical reflection on despair and salvation, and on the meaning of human happiness. The protagonist of the story is a man who has lost faith in life and in people, and whose absurdity has led him to make a decisive decision to end his existence. However, a strange dream leads him to another world, a pure and simple world where humanity has not yet known lies, selfishness, or pain.
In this dream, he discovers what humanity should have been, and a painful truth is revealed to him: that the fall of humankind was not an inevitable fate, but a choice. The man awakens with everything inside him transformed, freeing himself from his despair, and realizing that the salvation of the world is possible, and that happiness is based only on brotherly love and selflessness.
It is a short story in size, profound in its impact, in which Dostoevsky places the reader before a fundamental question: Does man know the path to happiness... only to lose it by his own hand?
