A book in which Imam al-Nawawi collected selected supplications, invocations, and remembrances from the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), most of which were narrated from the six books: Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa’i, and Muhammad ibn Majah. Imam al-Nawawi mentions the book from which the hadith was taken and the companion who narrated it as well. However, he deliberately omitted the chains of transmission because the intended reader is the one who is devoted to worship, not the one who is learning. Among the things mentioned in the introduction to the book is: “I intended to make this easy for those who are interested; So I began to compile this book, summarizing the objectives of what I mentioned, to make it easy for those who pay attention. I omitted the chains of transmission in most of it, because I mentioned that I prefer brevity, and because it is intended for the pious, and they do not aspire to knowledge of the chains of transmission, but rather they dislike it even if it is short, except for a few. And because its purpose is to know the supplications and act upon them and clarify their sources for those seeking guidance. And I will mention, God willing, instead of the chains of transmission what is more important than them, which is what is often lacking, which is the clarification of the authentic hadiths, their good, their weak, and their rejected, because it is something that all people need to know except for the rare ones among the hadith scholars. And this is the most important thing that must be taken care of, and what the student achieves from the side of the skilled memorizers and the skilled and trusted imams. And I will add to it, God willing, a number of valuables from the science of hadith, the subtleties of jurisprudence, the important principles, the exercises of the soul, and the etiquettes whose knowledge is confirmed for the seekers. And I will mention everything I mention, explaining it so that it is easy to understand for the common people and the jurisprudents. It includes very many chapters. It covers various and diverse topics, including remembrances for prayer, Hajj, fasting, jihad, death, sleep, times of distress, during the two Eids, during an eclipse, rain prayer, visiting the sick, entering the mosque, putting on clothes, entering the toilet, morning and evening remembrances, when riding an animal or ship, etc., remembrances for sexual intercourse, greeting, marriage, and other topics.
