From her Italian mother she inherited beauty, and from her father wealth. The women were led to their fate as objects of pleasure for the princes of the religious revolution, colorful flowers consumed by fire. It is the city of the wall, O Khamila; it is the entire nation, its orator chanting for it. Now, an era has ended and a new age has begun, and the beautiful Khamila, whose name has become Na’na’a, has become a captive, waiting to be married to one of the princes of the revolution, perhaps even Al-Muttaqi himself.
