Narcissism is a person's preoccupation or absorption with themselves, while at the same time ignoring the affairs and needs of others; indeed, often denying them. Anyone can exhibit narcissistic behavior or actions, and by "narcissistic" here, we mean someone who does not understand or realize that their behavior has a negative impact on the rest of the people around them. In his book "Narcissistic Hearths," the author Musa Yaqoub Qassem explores two main sources of narcissism in individuals, groups, cultures, and civilizations. The first type of narcissism arises from social violence against a being or entity, while the second stems from the glorification and aggrandizement of that same entity or others. The author highlights a large number of individual cases and social segments afflicted with what he calls "the silent epidemic of narcissism." The focus is on the self and the negative traits and outcomes of narcissism due to the scarcity of its positive aspects.
