To all who have these memoirs in their hands, here is recorded the history of humanity from the emergence of the pandemic until the beginning of its end, written through the blood and suffering of those who came before. We have lost many records, but what is preserved here is what was saved over generations. Memoirs stand witness to humans and their injustice, no matter how brutal or beyond imagination the recorded events may seem. If you think they are full of vices, know that nothing is imaginary. All horrors, as well as evils, have passed through humanity in one way or another in a time, place, or sect: immorality, ethnic cleansing, murder, torture, human trafficking, forced procreation, and many, many others. Some of them occurred long ago, and some are still circulating in secret. Your not experiencing them does not mean that they are impossible.

You're just lucky you're protected... at least for now.
