We present to you this book, a collection of short stories by the author, published in 1906. Most of its events take place during a significant period in American history, during the wave called the Gold Rush or (the gold rush) in the 1840s, by prospectors and explorers across the American countryside, Canada, and Australia in general, and in California in particular, which claimed the lives of many people and animals alike. In this collection, Jack London presents to us a handful of diverse human values, from courage and honesty, to an innate sense of justice and love, all the way to greed, vanity, and tyranny. In addition, there is human weakness and awe in the face of the power and might of nature, and the struggle with it in attempts that sometimes seem futile to tame it, and at other times successful in destroying it and disrupting its tranquility. Sometimes your heart aches with sadness over an animal's tear, and other times you feel sorry for a primitive human's fear of what is new and strange.
