Diwan of Zuhair ibn Abi Salma

Author's name: Zuhair ibn Abi Salma

He is Zuhair bin Abi Sulma Al-Muzni
The wisest poet of the pre-Islamic era and among the leaders of literature, some prefer him over all other Arab poets. Ibn al-A'rabi said: Zuhair possessed a poetic talent that no one else had. His father was a poet, his maternal uncle was a poet, his sister Salma was a poet, his sons Ka'b and Bujayr were also poets, and his sister al-Khansa' was a poet. He was born in the land of Muzaynah near Medina and resided in al-Hajr (in Najd), where his descendants continued to live after converting to Islam.
Quotes about him

It was said that he would compose a poem in a month and refine it in a year, so his poems were called annals.
He is, as Al-Tabrizi said, one of the three poets who are preferred over all other poets. However, there is disagreement over who is preferred over his two companions, and the other two are Imru’ al-Qais and Al-Nabigha Al-Dhubyani.
Those who preferred Zuhair said: Zuhair is the most eloquent poet of the pre-Islamic era. This hadith was narrated by Ikrimah on the authority of his father Jarir. Al-Abbas ibn al-Ahnaf held a similar opinion when he was asked about the most eloquent poet. Al-Abbas explained what he meant by saying: Zuhair threw away superfluous words from the panegyrists, such as his saying:
Whatever good they have done has been inherited from their forefathers before them.
Omar ibn al-Khattab greatly admired Zuhair. This was confirmed by Ibn Abbas, who said: “I went out with Omar ibn al-Khattab on his first military expedition, and he said to me: Recite to me a poem by the poet of poets. I said: ‘Who is he, O Commander of the Faithful?’ He said: ‘Ibn Abi Salma.’ I said: ‘And how did he become like that?’ He said: ‘He does not follow Hushy’s words, nor does he challenge them in speech. He only says what he knows, and he only praises anyone for what is in them.’”
This opinion was supported by many, including Uthman ibn Affan, Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, and others.
