No student of knowledge or jurist, not even a mufti or mujtahid can do without it. The commentary is a huge and magnificent book. He took more than twenty-five years to compile, compose, dictate, and revise, beginning at the beginning of 817 AH, when he was 44 years old. He finished it at the beginning of Rajab 842 AH, collecting in it the commentaries of those who had preceded him on Sahih al-Bukhari, expanding on the clarification of the Sahih and clarifying its problems, narrating the issues of consensus, and expanding on the disagreement in jurisprudence, authentication, weakening, language, and readings, with clear care in the accuracy of the Sahih.
