introduction
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Indeed, all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own souls and the wickedness of our deeds. He whom Allah guides, none can misguide, and he whom He misguides, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah - He is alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
Now then:
The foundation of the call of the Messengers - may God’s prayers and peace be upon them - is knowing God - Glory be to Him - through His names, attributes, and actions.
Then two great principles follow:
One of them: defining the path leading to Him, which is His law, which includes His commands and prohibitions. The second: defining for the travelers what they will have - after arriving at Him - of endless bliss and unending delight.
These two principles are subordinate to the first principle and are built upon it. The people who know God best are those who follow the path that leads to Him, and those who know the state of those who travel upon it best. For this reason, God, glory be to Him, called what He revealed to His Messenger a spirit, because true life depends on it, and a light, because guidance depends on it. Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, said: {He sends the Spirit by His command upon whom He wills of His servants} - in two places in His Book. He also said: {And thus We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], a Spirit by Our command. You did not know what the Scripture was, nor what faith was, but You have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, you guide to a straight path.} [Ash-Shura: 52]
There is no spirit except in what he brought, and no light except in being illuminated by him. He is life, light, protection, healing, salvation, and security. God sent His Messengers with guidance and the true religion. There is no guidance except in what he brought, and God does not accept a religion from anyone unless it is in accordance with His religion. He has purified himself from what the servants describe him with, except for what the messengers described him with. He said: “Glory be to God from what they describe, except for the sincere servants of God.” [As-Saffat: 159-160] More than one of the predecessors said: They are the messengers. (1)
And God said, “God, glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above what they describe. And peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.” (As-Saffat: 180-182) He purified himself from what people describe him with, then he greeted the messengers - because the shortcomings and faults they described him with were free from them. Then he praised himself for his uniqueness in the descriptions for which he deserves perfect praise.” (2) Based on this premise, a number of early scholars and a group of past scholars of the Ummah have written numerous books establishing the scientific principles upon which the chapters on the names and attributes of God are built - within the principles of the pure Salafi creed - by strengthening its pillars and establishing its foundations. In various classifications: between a small part and a large book. Among these scholars and great imams were two eminent imams and two great scholars: Sheikh al-Islam, Imam Ibn Taymiyyah, who died in the year 728 AH, and his student, the great scholar Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, who died in the year 751 AH. So they wrote, compiled, sat, explained, composed, and scattered many things, which had a great impact and widespread good, which continues to this hour - approximately eight centuries after their deaths.
Or more! - dependent on what they wrote, and guests at the tables of what they arranged and became familiar with... May Allah Almighty have mercy on them with a vast mercy, and grant them a generous reward and recompense, and decree for them lasting remembrance, and gather us and them - and the righteous among Allah's servants - in His Paradise, blessed by His pardon and encompassed by His forgiveness. ...And this book - which I present today to my brothers, the seekers of knowledge from the people of the Sunnah, and the advocates of the Salaf’s approach - and it is: “Al-Kafiyah Al-Shafiyyah in Defending the Saved Sect” - is a unique book in its example, and no other book has been written in its style and manner. By God, its author did not leave out any of the principles of the creed of the Salaf without explaining it, and he went on to mention it in detail, and he did not leave out - may God have mercy on him - a major innovation.
Or a dangerous innovator: unless he addresses it, responds to it, and refutes its doubts and deceptions. Thus, this book - the composition - has become more like a comprehensive encyclopedia of the most important beliefs of the people of the Sunnah, and a response to its enemies from among the ignorant and misguided of the Ummah. A verse for all, and I have looked at the editions and publications of the book (1): I saw them competing with each other: which one has the most deficiencies and distortions! And the greatest omissions and misprints!! So I swore upon myself - with the success of my Lord - that I would publish it in a new edition, with - God willing - certain accuracy; Hoping from my Lord - Glory be to Him - that He will grant me sincerity in word and deed, inspire me with what is right, and protect me from the evil of my own soul; for He - the Almighty - is the Guardian of that and is Able to do it. May God's prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.
And our final supplication is: All praise is due to God, Lord of the worlds.
