In all the success workshops I run, procrastination tops the list of obstacles people face. They want to make a change, but somehow they can't. After taking a few steps forward, they find a mysterious force holding them back. They get stuck in a vicious cycle of emotions. The more they resist and try to break out of it and make a change, the more complicated the situation becomes. Most of us have experienced this in one way or another. If we don't first learn how change is possible, we will continue to struggle in silence or give up on making the changes that really matter.
Life is dynamic and requires change, and today it is much faster than ever before. Without a better understanding of how to make changes, we will struggle more and more. But from a positive perspective, by applying some new principles to making changes, life will truly be easier. We will suddenly find that, instead of struggling and suffering, we are flowing smoothly through life, making the necessary adjustments, not to adapt to life but to achieve our dreams. Instead of trying to row against the current, we will find that we are happily moving with it.
In our relationships, we often quietly decide to be more loving and caring, then our partner says or does something, and we find ourselves again faced with a list of reasons why we haven't tried or shared our feelings with our partner. Although we may love our partner, we no longer feel that love deeply. Most couples begin their marriage determined to share compassion and passion for the rest of their lives, only to later understand what happened that extinguished that resolve. While some are happy to settle into a more traditional, faithful love, most are not, which increases feelings of resentment and raises the divorce rate.
