The thinker, short story writer, and poet Mikhail Naimy was born in Baskinta, at the foot of Mount Sannine, in 1889. He pursued his studies not only in Palestine but also in Russian Ukraine, before settling in the United States, where he earned degrees in literature and law. There, he and some of his contemporaries from the diaspora writers founded the "Pen League." In 1932, he returned to Baskinta, where he spent his time and became known as "the writer of Shakhroub" due to the mystical and philosophical nature of his literary output. He died in 1988 at the age of 99, having contributed dozens of books to the Arabic library in various literary, philosophical, and poetic fields. His collection of short stories and essays, "Margins," reflects the brisk pace of this "Shakhroub" ascetic, exploring the horizons of life, delving into its depths, and unveiling its wondrous secrets—secrets that are, in essence, Swedish. He says: “That world, in all its vastness, is no more vast than you, you fool. For it is to you as a stream is to the sea. And if you were not better than it in your mind and imagination, you, a dwarf in body, would not have longed to invade its dimensions, unravel its mysteries, and subdue it to your will.”
