May Ziadeh was a Lebanese poet, writer, and translator (1886-1941). Her travels between Beirut, Nazareth, and Cairo, particularly with Australia, allowed her to immerse herself in the treasures of Arabic literary heritage, a fact she further confirmed through her engagement with foreign languages. Cairo, however, remained a pivotal hub for humanity since the dawn of scribes and literature. As the young writer's star rose, and she excelled in Arabic literature, Islamic history, and philosophy, she began associating with writers and journalists, developing her skills as an essayist. She also established her own literary salon, "The Tuesday Salon," which brought together the leading writers of the era throughout the year. This collection sheds light on a significant aspect of Mikkel's work and the attention it has garnered over several decades. It comprises more than 170 pieces, including articles, lectures, stories, prose poems, and reflections in Arabic, English, French, and Italian. It also features German scholar Anita Ziegler's remarkable compilation of her writings from various periodicals and books, as well as a collection of the author's editorials in Al-Ahram newspaper. These previously forgotten writings complement recent publications and offer new insights into the life of May Malhaq, particularly her tragic final decade.
