In war, days become the same. Your existence becomes a coincidence missed by a bullet. Every day becomes an extra day spent on borrowed time. You forget to look in the mirror. You search for your face in the faces of others. You bury your solitude in the café, in fleeting stories, in virtual conversations that find their way between two crying emoji faces on your phone. Poetry becomes an excuse to cling to the act of life. Love. Flirting. Dates. All of them become weapons to combat the missiles that, if they don't reach you, reach the core of your sense of existence. In war, emotions reach their peak. Life is stripped of its clown makeup and appears naked for what it truly is, harsh for what it truly is, terrifying for what it truly is. Bloody stories surface. “The Test of Regret” tells the story of a writer who is adept at missing opportunities, talented at scattering depression, living sheltered in a fragile bubble, trying to tame his demons. He is a writer who scatters his words in the alleys of ancient Damascus, and they are three girls on the margins of life: “feeling,” “inflamed,” and “raped.” They are stories with which he teases the remaining time of a war story that is the longest of his stories with each of them. In wars, days become indistinguishable. Your existence becomes a coincidence mistaken by a bullet. Each passing day feels like an additional moment lost in the relentless march of time. You forget to look in the mirror. You search for your face in the faces of others. You bury your solitude in the crowded cafés, in fleeting stories, in virtual conversations that find their way between two tearful emojis on your phone. Poetry becomes a lifeline, a means to cling to the act of living. Love. Flirting. Dating. They all transform into shields against the shells of war. Even if these shells don't physically reach you, they pierce the essence of your very existence. In times of war, emotions are pushed to their extremes. Life sheds the disguise of a clown and stands exposed in its stark reality, in its full brutality and horror. It's in these turbulent times that the shattered stories of our lives come to the surface.
"The Regret Test" narrates the tale of a gifted writer who lets opportunities slip through his fingers, adept at spreading melancholy. He resides in the fragile bubble of his own making, attempting to tame the inner demons that haunt him. He's a writer who scatters his words in the ancient alleys of Damascus; Those words that in the margins of life represent three girls: the sensitive, the fiery, and the violated. These are stories that time caresses gently, tales woven in the longest war each of them has ever known.
