Do we sympathize with someone who is drowning, feel their deep desire to escape this trap, or do we gloat over them? He is a journalist. He sold his soul to the devil. He became deeply involved with the authorities in a well-woven game practiced by the country's powerful. In that whirlpool to which he surrendered himself, Mutahhar did all the despicable deeds required of him, but a good human trait remained attached to him, appearing secretly, at the junctures of the stories, in the folds of the ugly scene, when all the guards are asleep, and the requirements of the job and the orders of the adults are slightly dispelled...
