In the late Zaidi Imamate period in Sana'a, coinciding with the British occupation of Aden, an alliance formed between Yemeni tribal sheikhs and certain religious scholars led to the domination of a vulnerable populace, including another marginalized group known as "Akhdam" or "slaves." Some of these individuals attempted to rebel against their circumstances, but were met with brutal repression. Some fled to the forests of the Canadian mountains, and some even did so. They were ordered to launch night raids on the sheikhs' farms. Initially, this tactic succeeded in undermining the sheikhs' and their religious scholars' authority, but the challenge proved difficult; the tribal and religious alliance formed an unbreakable bond. Like the forbidden love between a free Adeni man and an Akhdam girl... In the late Zaidi Imamate period in Sana'a and the British occupation of Aden, the binding alliance between Yemeni tribal leaders and certain religious scholars resulted in the domination of a vulnerable population and another marginalized group referred to as "Akhdam" or "slaves." Some of these individuals attempt to rebel against their circumstances, only to be met with repression and extreme brutality. Those who manage to escape take refuge in the dense forests of the surrounding mountains, where they begin to form their resistance. They organize and launch night raids on the farms of the tribesmen. Initially, these attacks succeed in destabilizing the authority of the tribal chiefs and their religious allies, but the challenge is difficult, as the alliance between tribe and religion forms an unbreakable bond, much like the forbidden love between a free man from Aden and a woman from the Akhdam tribe.
