Lebanese-Syrian relations

Research into Lebanese-Syrian relations, both past and present, is linked to one of Lebanon's most complex and sensitive issues, surrounded by walls of tension, courtesy, and secrets. Perhaps the most prominent phase in the history of Lebanon and Syria, and the one that explains what happened and will happen between these two "brotherly" countries, is the period between 1943 and 1964. This period culminated in a joint struggle to achieve Lebanese independence in 1943 and restore Syria's internal unity and independence. This book deals in depth with Lebanese-Syrian relations through a conscious reading of the context of historical events, beginning with the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I and the West's success, through the Sykes-Picot-Sazonov Agreement, in dividing influence in the Arab region, and ending with the political fragmentation of Syrian and Lebanese regions and the activation of regional, provincial, and sectarian particularities between them. It also reveals the actual reasons for the deterioration of relations between the two countries, pointing to the extent of the influence of the Arab nationalist movement, and explores the depths of their relations on the Arab and international levels.
