What if we unraveled the myth? What if we looked back at those who starved, oppressed, and violated their people, and stormed their rooms where they plotted and ordered? There, where they take off their uniforms and medals, revealing their superstitions, follies, and hidden fears?
Wajdi Al-Ahdal’s imagination slipped lightly into the palaces of emperors, entered the realm of tyrants, and touched the fear hidden beneath that oppression, complete with a satirical, sarcastic fine.
These are stories that shatter the myth of those who terrorized entire nations for decades, drowning them in a sea of fear and injustice. Stories that diminish their tyranny and entertain the reader. No, not entertain, but rather constitute a diverse form of revenge against the bubbles of exported lives and plundered harvests, before history, with its magic needle, stores them with endings that a writer can exploit. What if we dismantled the myth? What if we looked back at those who starved, oppressed, and assaulted their people? What if we invaded their back rooms where they plotted and issued their orders? There, their biases, follies, and deep-seated fears would be exposed, where they would shed their suits and insignia.
Wajdi Al-Ahdal’s vivid imagination gently slips into the palaces of emperors, enters the chambers of tyrants, senses the fear behind their cruelty, and then exposes it in a satirical and ironic style.
